Leith Community Croft is operated by Earth in Common, a charity that exists to tackle a broken food system, climate change and social inequality locally, nationally, and internationally.

Scotland’s first urban croft sees over 120 ‘crofters’ tend to the site.  We were appointed to repair, alter, and extend a dilapidated former tennis pavilion on the croft to transform it into the charity’s new home.  The project was awarded funding from the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund in 2021 and was completed in 2023.  The refurbished building has become an outlet to promote healthy, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable food production and consumption in Leith.  The pavilion now accommodates a café, farm shop and community and skills training spaces which have been designed to open directly to the croft.  The extension is designed and orientated to benefit from solar heat gain and is constructed from natural materials.  A sedum roof provides shelter, attenuates rainwater, and helps to maintain the site’s biodiversity.
