As lead architect for the restoration and reimagining of Hamilton & Inches' jewellery & watch showroom and workshops on Edinburgh’s George Street, our brief was to restore the building's original historic features and to create a space that celebrates its heritage whist incorporating contemporary design.

At the front and centre of the project was the upgrade of the shopfront which was inspired by the original 1910 design. Working with Waldo Works, a London based specialist in shop design, the new shopfront presents flanking curved glass panels set in security-rated, bronze clad, steel frames; a new sloped Caithness stone accessible entrance and jewellery displays on curved Breccia marble plinths topped in silk.

Behind the shop front the elaborate Category B-Listed David Bryce interior, has been restored and enhanced with new cupola rooflights, display cabinets and lighting.

Above the showroom, tucked into the upper storeys of the original Georgian residence, are the little known about workshops, where Hamilton & Inches design and create their own pieces in gold and silver. These and the supporting office spaces were all upgraded to modern standards.
