Tinwald House, Dumfriesshire
Tinwald House was designed by William Adam and built in 1740 for Charles Erskine, later Lord Tinwald. The interior was destroyed by fire in 1946 and reinstated in a cheap and characterless way - which was all that could be achieved at that time. In 1990, the exterior of the house was repaired and the interior altered again and restored to the original plan and in the manner of William Adam.
