Rosslyn Castle, Midlothian
The great 15th century Castle of the Sinclair Earls of Orkney is largely ruinous, but one large range has remained roofed and contains fine interior work of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. When the present Earl of Rosslyn succeeded in 1977, the ruins were in a dangerous state and the roofed range derelict. Between 1984 and 1988 the ruins were repaired with MSC labour and Ancient Monuments grant and, also in 1984, the roofed range was repaired and restored with separate trades contractors and Historic Buildings grant and equipped for letting by the Landmark Trust.
