Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh
Queen Margaret University College had outgrown its constricted campus at Clermiston and was seeking opportunities for development elsewhere in Edinburgh. Simpson & Brown were asked to work with DTZ Pieda to review options for expansion. Various possible sites were assessed and Options Appraisals carried out.
The former Leith Academy building was eventually chosen and Simpson & Brown was appointed as architect for its repair and conversion. This interesting triangular secondary school building was built around a central courtyard. The building was comprehensibly repaired and many small interventions made to adapt the basic classroom accommodation for use by the paramedic departments transferring from Clermiston. The circulation spaces were restored to their former glory and the school assembly hall converted into a Library and IT Resource Centre.
