George Watson's Primary School, Edinburgh
George Watson's Primary School in Edinburgh required the build of four new classrooms. They were to be constructed over an existing light-weight steel framed 1970s hall, which had itself been a later addition added between the two projecting wings of a block built in 1929. After an initial study, Simpson & Brown advised that the hall should first be replaced, retaining the original floor slab. The new block is again steel-framed, with a shallow pitched steel roof deck and a continuous clerestorey. The materials used reflect the style of rest of the school. The interior spaces are functional, decorated with bright colours and employing hard-wearing finishes.
