Cringletie House Hotel, Peeblesshire

Cringletie House is a mid 19th century Scots Baronial mansion near Peebles, originally designed by David Bryce as a home for the Wolfe Murray family. The house had operated as a hotel for a considerable number of years when the new owners purchased the business in 2003 and commissioned Simpson & Brown to upgrade the accommodation and remodel the interiors.

The brief called for major alterations to facilitate disabled access and improve circulation throughout the hotel.  It also included the installation of a lift, the replacement of a mock Victorian conservatory with a more contemporary garden room restaurant, and the conversion of the service wing to create additional bedroom suites.  This was a challenging opportunity to adapt a complex traditional building in a sensitive manner in order to meet the demanding standards of a modern luxury hotel.  The first phase of work to the main hotel building, which won the Visit Scotland Disability Access Award, was completed in June 2004.
