Lizzie Cooper
Lizzie trained at Edinburgh College of Art and during her year out worked
for CS&T Architects in Melbourne. She began her professional career
with Keppie Design where she worked for four years, mainly on commercial
re-development projects.
Lizzie joined Simpson & Brown in 2006 to develop her interest in
conservation architecture and sustainable design. She was the project
architect for the redevelopment of Blairtummock House, a Grade B
listed building, which combined conservation work with the construction of a
new extension.
She is the currently the project architect for Cruiksfield House, a Grade
B private house in the Scottish Borders. Works include repairs to the
historic fabric and the design of a new two-story oval library with rooflight,
in the previously dead space at the centre of the house.
Lizzie is working with Poltimore House Trust to restore this Grade II* country house in Devon, which will be phased over a number years as funding becomes available. She is also involved with the Botanic Cottage Trust, which has overseen the dismantling of the Botanic Cottage on Leith Walk. The Trust is now working to raise funds to rebuild the cottage within the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh as a living archaeological study of traditional construction methods and materials.
Lizzie has RIAS Accreditation in Conservation Architecture.
