John Sanders

John Sanders John was trained as a painter at the Central School of Art & Design in London. He was employed as an assistant at The Charlewood Curry Partnership, Newcastle, working on conservation projects to churches and other historic buildings in Northumberland and County Durham, including: the re-ordering, lighting and provision of new sanctuary furniture for St Peter's Church, Monkwearmouth in Sunderland, and new visitor facilities and a permanent exhibition for Durham Cathedral. He went on to complete a Post-Graduate Diploma in the Conservation of Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art.

John joined the practice in 1988 and leads a team specialising in the repair and restoration of churches and other historic buildings. His projects include the repair and restoration of Yester Chapel in East Lothian; Auld Kirk Kilbirnie in Ayrshire; Finnart St Paul's Church in Greenock; St Mary's Church in Broughty Ferry; St Salvador's Church in Dundee; St Ninian's Manse and Liberton Tower, both in Edinburgh; Nunton Steading in Benbecula; Udrigle House in Wester Ross; and Aykley Heads House in Durham. He has recently completed the repair and restoration of Royal Mile Mansions and North Bridge Arcade in Edinburgh and designed and constructed a new family chapel at Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada. John has a particular interest in 19th Century Church Architecture in Scotland.
