Jen Austin
Jen studied Architecture at the University of Sydney and achieved a Masters degree in Heritage Conservation in 2002. During and following study for her Masters degree, Jen was employed as a Built Heritage Consultant for Godden Mackay Logan Heritage Consultants in Sydney. She was a participant in the US/ICOMOS Summer Internship Program 2003 with the US National Park Service at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina. Jen has a particular interest in the conservation of materials and in 2003 was awarded a Fellowship by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust of Australia to study the manufacture, conservation and use of architectural terracotta and faience in the USA and Britain.
Jen is the team leader of the practice's Architectural History & Archaeology Team and has extensive experience in the preparation and production of conservation plans, conservation statements, heritage audits, heritage impact assessments, feasibility studies, and the development and maintenance of site and building gazetteers and databases. Since joining Simpson & Brown in 2003, Jen has been involved with the completion of many reports, including, Eaglais na h-Aoidhe (Aoidhe Church) on the Isle of Lewis; Rowallan Castle in East Ayrshire; Odeon Cinema in Edinburgh; Tyne Theatre & Opera House in Newcastle upon Tyne; Wearmouth-Jarrow Candidate World Heritage Site; Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute; Gateshead Visitor Centre (former St Mary’s Church); Heron Corn Mill in Cumbria, and Dumfries House in Ayrshire.
