What we do:

We are a commercial archaeological contractor providing a range of services and advice on archaeological issues arising from development, especially those of planning conditions.

Addyman Archaeology is specialised in Standing Building Recording and interpretation; however, our highly experienced team undertakes all forms of archaeological work and consultancy across the country. Whilst our main office is based in Edinburgh, we are particularly well placed to engage with projects across Scotland, the north of England and Ireland.

Founded as Addyman & Kay in 1996, the company has worked with many private clients, public bodies, preservation trusts and architectural practices in the United Kingdom and beyond, often working in close association with Simpson & Brown.

Services we offer:

We offer a range of archaeological services listed below and with each specific type of work we produce informative and detailed reports or documents that are required at your historic site.  We cater to different aspec of archaeological work such as:

Historic Building Recordings: We are expert within this sector having over 50 years’ experience between us and working on a variety of different building and structures all over the world.

Evaluations: We have huge amount of experience in evaluations. We work with  the landscape of your site and the aims of your project to sufficiently evaluate the archaeological potential.

Excavations: The classic mitigation strategy  that opens up areas to the archaeological horizon allowing for full recording of the archaeological features of your site.

Watching Briefs and Monitoring: Planning consent often requests archaeological monitoring of groundwork or downtakings, this can be referred to as a watching brief.

Photogrammetric Surveys: We offer photogrammetry surveys of your building to suit your needs.

Desk-based Assessments: This document is an assessment of all evidence that is currently available of your site. It also provides the archaeological potential of your project.

Walk-over Surveys: One of our archaeologists will complete a survey of your site to identify possible features visible.

Post Excavation and Publications: After fieldwork has been completed  the resulting archive and report may require further work and research

Community Archaeology: Community group work, volunteer excavations and training exercises on real sites.
